I Got the Juice!

~Shemeka Michelle
Sounds like a cocky statement but if you don’t know what you’re working with, who will?
For a couple of weeks I’ve been hearing “Trim the Fat”. What exactly does this mean? I’m already thin. As a matter of fact, I’m on a mission (although slack at times) to gain ten pounds. What fat did I possibly need to trim? I knew that if I researched this further, I would completely understand. However as usual, when I feel it’s a message I don’t want to hear or obey, I procrastinate. Here’s what I learned…..
Take steak for example, when steaks cook, the fat will shrink faster than the meat. This can cause the fat to fold or compress the meat. This pressure can squeeze out the juices and make the steak more difficult to eat. I learned that in order to prepare a better steak, you should trim excess fat.
What did this say to me? There are certain people connected to me that aren’t useful or necessary. They may not be able to stand the heat and will therefore have to get out of the kitchen! I can expect to outrun and/or outlast them because I’m the meat and they will shrink, diminish or disappear before I do. Obviously there are some things causing unnecessary pressure in my life; making things more difficult for me. So, in order for me to become a better me, extra baggage has to go! As I look around, I realize that I’ve held on to some things out of comfort or security. Not because I actually needed those things but just because it was easier. Now I have to gain the confidence to change it as I have a problem with hurting the ones I love. It’s always a gamble when you want to change the nature of any relationship. I need to be like Nike and just do it!  At the end of the day, why do we hold on to anything that we truly don’t need? In my opinion, it’s because we sometimes forget who we are.
Have you ever down played your abilities to appease people? Smart kids do it all the time to look cool and fit in. We tell them not to “dumb down” but as adults we do the same all the time. We fear that our confidence may come across as conceit. However there’s nothing wrong with believing in you! If you want more out of life, go after it. If you’re good at something, become the best! Don’t be afraid to shine! If you’ve got it, flaunt it! If you know you’re a steak, trim the fat! Know what you’re working with and don’t be afraid to proclaim you’ve got the juice!
I’ve got the Juice so stay tuned for the “I cut that shit off” blog
